People don’t ask for the treatments, appointments and disruptions that come from a diagnosis of cancer. Their family members don’t ask to be a cancer advocate. It isn’t a choice, lives change for cancer patients and for their family in an instant. While the patient fights, the family provides support and encouragement. They also search for answers, treatments and the best care available.
From the day of that first diagnosis, lives for everyone involved become something more. People are no longer just a spouse, sibling, or a parent. They suddenly find themselves a caregiver, spokesperson, driver, sitter, cook and much more. In the beginning people have little idea of what is going and what to do. But something unique happens to both the patient and the family: they step up and accept the challenge.
This life path can be heartbreaking, rejoicing, challenging, exhausting and thrilling—a complete mixture of emotions. But all of it can be incredibly rewarding. People are thrilled every time they hear about a new cancer breakthrough, excited to see survivors beating this disease, and extremely proud when the treatments end and recovery begins. Union Hospital is here to treat the body and care for the soul of both patient and their loved ones.
We write to ask that you help Union Hospital in this fight and for your support of our cancer program. Please make a gift of $25 or more this holiday season.
Thank you and best wishes for a happy and healthy 2016.
